Nami Hitou was born on March 31. She is defined by her complete ordinariness compared to her classmates, yet she deeply resents being labeled as "normal," viewing the term as boring and undesirable. Her surname, Hitou, is derived from the Japanese word hitonami, which translates to "run-of-the-mill." Although this detail is not mentioned in the main series, she attended elementary school alongside Kafuka, who may have been the first person to describe her as normal. Originally, she was slated to be the heroine during the planning stages of Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei.
