Summary
Garuru serves as an S-rank sniper and the commanding officer of the Garuru Platoon, as well as the older brother of Giroro. He is an indigo Keronian frog distinguished by a black helmet and a personal symbol featuring a downward-pointing red triangle with a line through its center. Unlike Giroro, who wears his belt to commemorate fallen comrades from the Keron war, Garuru’s belt is worn for its power. When the Keroro Platoon failed to make progress in their mission and Giroro was not recognized as a leader, the Garuru Platoon traveled to Pekopon to complete the objective themselves. Garuru initially defeated his brother in a one-on-one gun match, but lost in a subsequent rematch. The Keroro Platoon ultimately prevailed through their unity and friendship, though it was strongly implied that Garuru’s true purpose was merely to test the abilities of the Keroro Platoon. The Garuru Platoon reappears in episode 130, where Garuru confronts a clone of Giroro, and in episode 154, he assists the Keroro Platoon in defeating ZZZ. It is revealed that Garuru is the only individual capable of pronouncing the new menace's name without biting his tongue. In volume 14 of the manga, Garuru visits Giroro under the pretense of a short holiday. He presents a gift that transforms into a massive, flying sweet potato, forcing the brothers to team up to stop it. This was actually a ploy by their father to teach them a lesson. During the battle, Powered Natsumi arrives and helps Garuru defeat the potato, which is immune to ballistic weapons like guns, using her beam sabres. Garuru appears impressed by the girl. A flashback during the fight depicts a younger, presumably teenage Garuru defending his younger brother and friend from two bullies who intended to take over their secret base. In this scene, young Garuru wears a belt with a rectangular buckle, similar to the one Giroro wears in the present. In volume 15, Garuru sends Pururu to investigate the Keroro Platoon regarding their plans to invade.
