Summary
Akira Touya is a student at Kaio Middle School and serves as Hikaru’s primary rival. Born on December 14, he is the son of Koyo Touya. By the time Hikaru starts playing Go, Akira is already a formidable player and is stunned by Hikaru’s seemingly impossible strength. From their first match, Akira becomes obsessed with uncovering the source of Hikaru’s power. Although Akira later defeats Hikaru in a rematch, he acknowledges that there is still much strength within him. As the series unfolds, the two continue to play each other, but their matches invariably end in arguments. Additionally, Akira is depicted as growing taller throughout the story.
