Summary
Nobuyuki Sugou was originally chosen by Asuna’s father to become her husband and was subsequently adopted into the family according to her father’s wishes. He attended the same school as Kayaba Akihiko, regarding the latter as a rival. During the Sword Art Online incident, Sugou exploited the chaos to abduct test subjects for his research alongside Asuna. In ALfheim Online, he assumes the identity of the Fairy King Oberon. In this role, he imprisons Asuna in a birdcage atop the World Tree. While she is held captive in ALO, Sugou frequently visits her solely to mock and torment her, actions that characterize him as a pervert. In the real world, he confronts the powerless Kazuto, declaring his intention to marry the unconscious Asuna.
