Diavolo
Summary
Born in 1967, Diavolo is the primary antagonist of Part 5 and the boss of the Italian mafia group Passione. Standing 191 cm tall, his origins are shrouded in mystery; he was born in a female prison to a mother who claimed conception occurred two years prior to her incarceration. Since she could not raise him, a priest in Sardinia cared for him until age 19, when the priest discovered her buried alive under a stone tablet. A subsequent fire supposedly killed both the priest and Diavolo, though the latter survived and quickly rose through the ranks of Passione. During the interval between Stardust Crusaders and Golden Wind, he hunted down all blood relatives and anyone who knew his true identity to erase his name from existence, operating under the alias Soliddo Nazo. His surname, meaning "devil," reflects his role as the series' villain. In Egypt, Diavolo recovered a bow and six Arrows, selling five to Enya Geil while keeping one for himself. That specific Arrow was later attached to Polpo’s Stand, Black Sabbath. To manage his paranoia and social interactions, Diavolo utilizes Vinegar Doppio, his young and innocent second personality. Doppio, whose name means "Double," acts as a disguise when Diavolo interacts with the outside world, transforming back into the boss whenever his identity is threatened. Doppio communicates with Diavolo via a ringing sound only he can hear, often making a noise similar to a phone ringing, which leads others to view him as insane or frightening. Diavolo’s Stand is King Crimson, a light red humanoid with a smaller duplicate of itself on its forehead, mirroring Diavolo’s psyche. The Stand possesses the ability to predict ten seconds into the future and then "erase time," effectively skipping that duration. During the erased time, everything except King Crimson and Diavolo advances to its future state, while Diavolo retains the ability to move and interact with objects, perceiving them as superimposed states akin to the painting Nude Descending a Staircase. This allows him to dodge attacks, such as bullets, by skipping the moments they would have struck him, resulting in the projectiles appearing to suddenly shift to a different position.
