Summary
Rai-Dei is a samurai driven by the pursuit of wisdom that can only be attained when confronting death. He wields a unique sword equipped with a gun mechanism in the hilt, capable of firing projectiles, and possesses the strength to swing his blade with such force that it generates a sonic blast. In the anime adaptation, he expresses frustration that Vash refuses to embrace his true nature and aim for lethal kills, insisting instead that he desires a genuine battle. In the manga continuity, Rai-Dei utilizes roller skates that enable him to achieve phenomenal speeds. He serves as the protagonist of the seventh chapter of Trigun Multiple Bullets, titled "Trigun: Rising," which is set prior to his eventual joining of the Gung-ho-Guns. During this period, Rai-Dei protects a small town from bandits and trains a young girl in his "Jigengiri Ittouryu" fighting style. Initially displaying an apathetic demeanor and killing anyone who opposes him, he gradually develops a sense of affection for the townspeople. However, following a tragic event, he reverts to his roots as an assassin, becoming increasingly bloodthirsty and eager to cut through more flesh with his blade.
