Jindai

Summary

Jindai, also known as Brandon, remains a figure of mystery throughout the Battle Frontier saga. His silhouette is absent from the opening sequence, appearing only in the center of the group shot, and Trainers are unaware of the Battle Pyramid’s location until they have collected the other six Symbols. This secrecy suggests he may hold a higher rank than the other Frontier Brains, although the video games and manga designate Anabel in that position. Ash discovers the Pyramid’s location near Pewter City only after earning his sixth Frontier Symbol in "Second Time's the Charm!". Their initial confrontation takes place in "Battling the Enemy Within!", where Ash is possessed by an ancient king of the Pyramid. The possessed Ash commands Sceptile against Brandon’s Regirock. Sceptile is defeated, but Ash eventually regains control of his body, and the Pyramid is relocated to an area near the Indigo Plateau. In their second encounter during "Overjoyed!", Ash’s Torkoal faces Brandon’s Registeel. Just like Sceptile, Torkoal is defeated by Brandon’s Legendary Pokémon. In "Gathering the Gang of Four", Ash and his companions meet Brandon in a forest. The subsequent battle in "Pace - The Final Frontier!" is a 4 vs. 4 match. Brandon’s Dusclops defeats Ash’s Charizard, only to be beaten by Ash’s Bulbasaur. Next, Brandon’s Ninjask fights Ash’s Squirtle, which wins using Hydro Pump. Squirtle is then defeated by Brandon’s Solrock, which draws with Bulbasaur. In the final round, both competitors have one Pokémon left. Ash sends out Pikachu while Brandon reveals Regice from his legendary collection. Pikachu manages to hold its own against the Legendary golem and emerges victorious, becoming only the second Pokémon in the anime to defeat a Legendary, after Charizard. Brandon reappears in "A Pyramiding Rage!" to research the Snowpoint Temple. He is challenged to a full battle by Paul, who loses easily due to a loss of emotional control. Brandon states they will battle again when Paul is ready. In "Pillars of Friendship", Brandon attempts but fails to stop Pokémon Hunter J from disturbing Regigigas in the Snowpoint Temple, causing the Ancient Pokémon to go on a rampage. He saves Regigigas from being turned into a statue by J, calming it down. Brandon then decides to remain at the Snowpoint Temple to rebuild it and allow Regirock, Regice, and Registeel to serve as the new pillars protecting Regigigas.
