Summary

Sai, whose true name remains a secret and who was given his current moniker solely to fill the vacancy left by Sasuke Uchiha in Team 7, was recruited into Root at a young age. The organization conditioned him to suppress all emotions, a trait that facilitates mission execution but severely hinders his social interactions. Upon joining Team 7, his emotional void leads to social blunders, such as insulting teammates in a misguided attempt at friendliness and offering insincere smiles that his peers quickly reject. However, prolonged exposure to the group allows him to understand the value of bonds, particularly the connection between Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha. Motivated to forge his own connections, Sai initially struggles by assigning literal, often offensive nicknames based on physical appearance. He eventually learns to compliment others by stating the opposite of his observations, such as calling Ino Yamanaka beautiful, which proves more effective. Despite this progress, his efforts to be helpful are frequently unwelcome. A highly skilled artist who has produced thousands of unentitled works due to his lack of inspiration, Sai utilizes his drawing prowess for combat and utility. Through his Super Beast Imitating Picture Scroll, he can manifest ink creations into life-sized, moving entities. This technique enables him to generate birds for aerial travel and lion-like beasts for offense. Additionally, he can create Ink Clones for safe reconnaissance missions. Sai also possesses the unique ability to transform written words into small animals that locate specific targets before reverting to text, providing him with a reliable method of communication.
