Myoujin, Yahiko
Summary
Yahiko is a descendant of samurai. His father was killed at Keneiji Temple during the Battle of Ueno in the Boshin War, and his mother subsequently died of syphilis in a brothel shortly after giving birth to him. Originally forced into a life of theft for the local Yakuza, Yahiko was deceived into believing he had to repay the money the gangsters had given his mother for medicine. With guidance from Himura Kenshin and Kamiya Kaoru, he transitions into an apprentice of the Kamiya Kasshin-Ryuu style. He has a friend and rival named Tsukayama Yutarou, as well as a sweetheart named Sanjou Tsubame, who works at Akabeko.
