Stryfe, Meryl
Seiyuu / Dub
Summary
Meryl Stryfe, along with her junior colleague Milly, was dispatched by the Bernardelli Insurance Society to investigate claims concerning Vash the Stampede. Despite her stern demeanor and quick temper, she possesses a fundamentally good nature. Although she rarely engages in combat alongside Vash, she conceals numerous derringer-style "throwaway" pistols beneath her coat, a trait that led her to dub herself "Derringer Meryl." At first, she viewed Vash as an annoyance and rejected the notion that he was the legendary Humanoid Typhoon. Over time, however, she came to understand that he was neither the villain portrayed by others nor the buffoon he pretended to be, eventually developing deep respect and love for him. The anime suggests near its conclusion that she might be the reincarnation of Rem Saverem, though this element is absent from the manga and likely an anime-exclusive addition. Hints regarding family issues are present, and since she celebrates her twenty-third birthday early in Trigun Maximum, she was twenty-one when the original Trigun began. She is notably petite, a trait emphasized more in the manga than in the anime. In Trigun Stampede, her role shifts to that of a rookie reporter at the Bernardelli News Agency. Seeking a major scoop, she encounters Vash and becomes entangled in the destiny surrounding him. Coming from a wealthy background, she exhibits a somewhat naive side.
