Hatsuharu Souma is a fifteen or sixteen-year-old freshman at Kaibara High School who represents the Ox in the Zodiac. Standing at 170.2 cm with type O blood and a Cancer sign, Haru embodies the dual nature of the Ox, displaying a calm, placid demeanor that contrasts sharply with his capacity to "stampede" when provoked. During these episodes, he becomes edgy, mean, and slightly oversexed, a state known as Black Haru. Although White Haru remains conscious during this transformation, he is powerless to stop it and typically responds with indifference or apologies. Haru struggles significantly with navigation, having once been lost in another town for three days while searching for Kyo to challenge him. He enjoys passively teasing Kyo and seeks regular fights with him, yet he is deeply protective and caring, constantly looking out for Yuki, Kisa, and Rin.
