Summary
Rem departed Earth on Project Seeds after the planet’s resources were exhausted, rendering it uninhabitable for humanity. During their search for a new home, the crew, carrying cryogenically frozen passengers, encountered a young Vash and Knives on a hostile world. While the majority of the crew wished to exterminate the twins, Rem intervened to save them, treating the pair as humans rather than monsters. She often visited the holographic Eden aboard the ship, a simulation of her war-free, hateless Earth, which became her favorite place. Vash developed a deep attachment to Rem and adopted her philosophy, whereas Knives loved her but interpreted her teachings differently, a perspective some view as a complete rejection of her ideals. Rem serves as Vash’s primary inspiration, particularly regarding his vow never to kill, stemming from her belief that no one has the right to take another’s life.
