Summary

Shampoo first crossed paths with Ranma and Genma when they crashed into a Joketsuzoku village contest, where the pair devoured the prize feast. As the local champion, Shampoo challenged them, but Ranma emerged victorious. Under tribal law, a female Amazon defeated by a female outsider must issue the "Kiss of Death," pursue the winner globally, and kill them. After Ranma and Genma fled to Nerima, Japan, Shampoo tracked them down, encountering male Ranma, who intervened to protect Akane. Since a female Amazon defeated by a male outsider must marry him, Shampoo shifted her goal to marrying male Ranma while still intending to kill female Ranma, until Ranma deceived her into believing his male form was merely a disguise. She returned to China for specialized training under her great-grandmother Cologne, during which she fell into a Cursed Spring and acquired her cat curse. Upon learning Ranma shared a similar affliction, she returned to Japan to pursue marriage, taking up work as a waitress, cook, and delivery girl at the Neko Hanten alongside Cologne. Though her broken Japanese might suggest she is a bimbo, this stems from her limited time learning the language after her pursuit; interestingly, she spoke fluent Chinese during a rooftop conversation with Mousse, suggesting translations may exaggerate her grammatical errors. The Memorial Book describes her as both innocent and aggressive, a fitting summary of her complex nature: she is cheerful, affectionate, and hardworking, yet also spiteful, sadistic, and manipulative. Despite her violent tendencies toward others and even Ranma, her devotion to him appears genuine. Trained in Joketsuzoku martial arts since birth by Cologne and the former village champion, Shampoo is a formidable unarmed combatant known for her speed, acrobatics, and the ability to casually walk through walls. Her primary weapons are a pair of bonbori, though she is also proficient with swords, spears, bows, and various polearms. She cannot match Ranma’s power and is effortlessly overpowered in serious one-on-one fights. Beyond combat, she possesses skills in ventriloquism, shiatsu-induced unconsciousness, mind control or memory alteration, sleep-fighting, and intuitive multi-step strategy. She is also skilled in cooking, enchanted herb defense, and possesses incredible tracking abilities, having hunted Ranma from rural China to eastern Japan. Additionally, she utilizes minor magical equipment and can ride her bicycle across the city, demonstrating remarkable versatility.
