Summary

Ivan Braginsky is the personification of the Russian Federation, the largest nation in the world by land area. Standing at 182cm, he presents an intimidating presence despite his tall stature. His appearance features light blonde hair and violet eyes, though earlier artwork depicted his eyes as blue, and the anime adaptation colored his hair beige. His birthday is December 30th, and his national flower is the chamomile. While he initially appears kind, sweet, and innocent, he is actually quite unhinged, possessing a childlike cruelty that he considers completely normal. He suffers from a deep-seated hatred of snow due to the harsh winters personified as General Winter, dreaming instead of living in a warm place filled with sunflowers. He has an intense love for vodka, once shouting its name while jumping from a plane without a parachute. When angry, he chants "kolkolkol," a reference to kolkhoz, the collective farming system of the former Soviet Union. His surname is often misromanized as Braginski by fans, but Braginsky is the more accurate spelling, as endings in "-sky" typically denote Russian origin, whereas "-ski" is usually Polish. Ukraine served as the older sister who raised both him and Belarus, and she is the one who gave him his scarf. In the manga, the scarf is beige, but it appears pink in the anime. Belarus is madly in love with him and desires to marry him. Thoughts of either sister often leave Russia feeling deeply depressed. In the past, he held control over the Baltic Brothers: Lithuania, Estonia, and Latvia. The three worked in his home and were subjects of his torment, with Russia particularly picking on Latvia for his height. He also showed a specific interest in Lithuania, once forcing him to accompany him on a trip even when Lithuania had scheduled a date with Belarus. China is his southern neighbor and is deeply suspicious and afraid of Russia. Russia frequently suggests that the two countries should unite, but China rejects the idea. On several occasions, Russia has stalked China, at one point disguising himself in a panda suit to do so.
