Summary

Hyuuga Hinata is the eldest daughter of the main branch of the Hyuga clan. Her surname, Hyuga, translates to "toward the sun," while her given name, Hinata, is a pun derived from the same kanji, meaning "a sunny place." Initially trained by her father, Hiashi Hyuga, to succeed as the clan heiress, she was eventually deemed a lost cause in favor of her younger sister, Hanabi Hyuga. Disappointed in her abilities, Hiashi left Hinata in the care of Kurenai Yuhi after she joined Team 8, stating he no longer cared for her fate. Early in her career, Hinata’s low self-confidence and reluctance to fight hindered her performance, causing her to fail missions and quit training whenever she encountered competition. Hinata has harbored a deep crush on Naruto since their Academy days, drawn to his determination, confidence, and strength, qualities she feels she lacks. This affection drives her to break from her timid nature to help and defend him, even when he is unaware of her efforts. Her desire to impress Naruto and emulate his strength serves as a primary motivator for her self-improvement. Upon their reunion in Part II, her feelings were so overwhelming that she fainted when he greeted her. Over time, however, she grew more comfortable with him, progressing from being unable to meet his gaze to speaking with him easily and collaborating seamlessly on missions. As a Hyuga, Hinata possesses the Byakugan, granting her nearly 360-degree vision. During the Chunin Exams, she demonstrated the ability to focus this sight to see greater distances. She specializes in the Gentle Fist style, which allows her to damage opponents' chakra circulatory systems and internal organs with precise, light taps. Seeking greater power, she developed a new technique during the anime’s Bikochu arc known as Protection of the Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms. This move combines the clan’s most powerful techniques, emitting streams of chakra from her palms to form razor-sharp blades. By manipulating the size, control, and speed of these blades, she can attack and defend simultaneously against any target within her field of vision.
