Vrumugun

Summary

Vrumugun refers to a collective of copy men generated by Eris, serving as primary antagonists in the first season of the Slayers anime and the franchise's third novel. In the literary source material, Eris deployed these duplicates in an attempt to apprehend Lina Inverse, Gourry Gabriev, and Zelgadis Greywords, intending to deliver them to Sairaag. She dispatched a single Vrumugun at a time, producing a fresh copy whenever a previous one was destroyed. This tactic initially baffled the heroes, who mistakenly believed Vrumugun was a solitary individual rather than a recurring entity, leading to confusion as their foe continually resurfaced. The copies ceased to exist upon the death of their controller. Conversely, in the animated adaptation, Vrumugun was paired with Zangulus during their pursuit of Gourry and Lina. While Zangulus was characterized by arrogance and a short temper, Vrumugun remained quiet, composed, and highly serious. Notably, after Zelgadis eliminates a batch of clones in episode 18, Vrumugun disappears and remains absent for the rest of the first season. The identity of the original Vrumugun remains ambiguous across all Slayers media. The novels provide clues suggesting Eris is the original creator, noting that she, along with possibly the original Rezo, produced the copies, and sharing her surname with the entity. The anime offers no such hints, never mentioning Eris' last name or implying she is the source. However, a brief appearance at the conclusion of Slayers NEXT shows an individual resembling Vrumugun at the wedding of Zangulus and Martina, implying this figure is the original Vrumugun.
