Shibuya, Yuuri
Summary
Shibuya Yuuri, also known by the alias Harajuku Fuuri when outside the castle, is the protagonist of the series. A fifteen-year-old demon who turns sixteen midway through the story, he was born and raised in Saitama prefecture as a high school student who prefers baseball to studying. His given name, Yuri, was assigned by Conrad, who noted that it means July, matching his July 29 birthday. In his human life, bullies mocked his name by calling him "Shibuya Yūri, Harajuku Fūri," a reference to Tokyo districts implying an advantage in Shibuya and a disadvantage in Harajuku. Upon arriving in Shin Makoku, Yuuri is declared the 27th Maoh of the Mazoku. He possesses a volatile temper and strong emotions, which cause him to lose control and enter a state known as "Maou mode." In this form, characterized by longer hair and demon eyes, his natural powers emerge, allowing him to summon powerful majutsu even in human territories and souseki-filled areas where other demons struggle. His magic typically manifests as water dragons or messy constructs. Initially, this power exhausts him to the point of unconsciousness, but he later learns to control it. He is often addressed as Your Majesty or King Yuri, though associates use nicknames like Yu-chan, Yuri, or Double Black Demon King. Yuuri’s journey is defined by his goal to create a peaceful world where Mazoku and humans coexist. He becomes engaged to Wolfram von Bielefeld after a misunderstanding where Wolfram slaps him for insulting Yuuri’s mother, a gesture interpreted as a marriage proposal among the Mazoku. Supported by allies such as Conrad, Günter, Gwendal, Murata, Josak, and Wolfram, Yuuri works to fulfill his destiny while navigating the cultural differences between the human and demon worlds.
