Dororo

Summary

Formerly known as Zeroro, Lance Corporal Dororo serves as the assassin for the Keroro Platoon after crash-landing on Pekopon. He was inadvertently left behind by his comrades and initially faced a lonely demise when his leg was trapped in a bear trap. He was saved by the female ninja Koyuki Azumaya, with assistance from Zeroyasha the dog in the anime adaptation. Adopting the name Dororo after the forest where he was rescued, he chose to follow the path of the ninja. He is frequently overlooked by the rest of the platoon and others, with the exception of Koyuki. This neglect can trigger his Trauma Switch, causing a purple, gloomy aura to emanate from him as he retreats to a dark corner to weep. This state is often activated by memories of Keroro’s childhood mistreatment, such as being used as a shield in a snowball fight, which recalls a similar incident during a dodgeball game. Dororo harbors a deep love for all creatures and nature on Pekopon, stating he has "fallen deeply in love" with the planet. Consequently, he refuses to participate in any plans that might harm people’s feelings, damage nature, or endanger wildlife. He has vowed to protect Pekopon at all costs alongside Koyuki. As a child, Zeroro enjoyed gardening, a hobby he continues to this day. He maintains a beautiful garden in the platoon’s underground base, cultivating both native Pekopon plant species and those from other alien worlds. He uses gardening, along with reading and meditation atop high places like lampposts or trees, to train his physical and mental agility. Hailing from a wealthy family, young Zeroro struggled with a weak presence, making him virtually invisible to others. He lacked friends until Keroro and Giroro appeared, and he went to great lengths to maintain their friendship, even when Keroro hurt his feelings, broke his possessions, or occasionally caused him physical pain. Over time, Keroro damaged his music box, misused his stamp collection, stole strawberries from his cake, scribbled in his books, and exploited his kindness. Despite this abuse, Zeroro retained a sweet, humble, and kind demeanor, holding no grudge or desire for revenge against Keroro, unlike his counterpart in the Garuru Platoon, Zoruru. He still breaks down in tears when reminded of his childhood. Inspired ironically by Keroro, he utilized his natural stealth to become an assassin in the Keronian Military, joining an elite group led by Jirara alongside Zoruru before deploying to Pekopon as a Lance Corporal (formerly a Private Second Class in the manga). Dororo often concludes his sentences with "De Gozaru," an archaic form of "Desu," and refers to himself as "Sessha," a samurai-style term for "I." Early in the series, he frequently communicated with Keroro and the others via paper shuriken notes, which would inexplicably stick into Keroro’s head, causing him to panic until removed by another platoon member. Dororo can perform this feat from a distance.
