Summary
Wakkein served as the commander of the Earth Federal Space Force base Luna II, where his flagship, the Magellan, was scuttled by the White Base to facilitate their escape. He later emerges as a significant figure in the Federation’s successful capture of the Zeon space fortress Solomon. During the TV series, he aids the White Base in conducting mop-up operations around Side 5's Texas colony. In this engagement, his vessel is compelled to fight Char Aznable’s Zanzibar alone, resulting in the ship’s destruction and the presumed death of Watkins. The movie version, however, leaves his fate ambiguous; although his ship sustains heavy damage during the Battle of Solomon, it is not depicted exploding. In the 1988 alternate manga Outer Gundam, his full name is revealed to be Wolfgang Wakkein.
