Kudou, Yuusaku

Summary

As the father of Kudou Shinichi, Yuusaku is a celebrated mystery novelist whose fictional creation, Night Baron, has garnered significant attention. He shares his son’s exceptional deductive reasoning and sharp intellect, a trait likely refined by his profession. His mental acuity was evident from a young age, leading to a lasting friendship and advisory role with Inspector Megure, whom he assisted in resolving complex cases. Despite his police collaborations, his true passion remained writing, and he achieved acclaim as a novelist in his twenties. During this period, he met and married Fujimine Yukiko, a renowned and beautiful actress. He proposed to her immediately after brilliantly solving a murder case at an upscale restaurant, a romantic gesture that would be ironically mirrored twenty years later when his son Shinichi failed to confess his feelings in a similar scenario involving a case follow-up. Yuusaku’s observational skills and intellect are superior even to those of his son, allowing him to stay ahead of both Shinichi and criminals. However, he typically refrains from intervening unless Conan Kudo is unable to save a victim in time. His literary success stems from a deep understanding of the criminal psyche, highlighted by his famous recurring antagonist character. As a writer, he is sometimes unreliable with deadlines, occasionally ignoring his editors to travel with Yukiko. He maintains a remarkably calm and laid-back demeanor, rarely losing his temper. This relaxation is evident in his parenting; he frequently brought young Shinichi to crime scenes and showed no concern when the six-year-old dragged Ran and Agasa into dangerous areas to investigate codes. The only instance of visible stress occurred after a false kidnapping, when his editors forced him to work to make up for missed deadlines. Despite his composure, Yuusaku can be cocky and possesses a questionable sense of humor.
