Summary

Maruko, the titular character born on May 8, 1965, is a nine-year-old third-grader growing up in a modest six-person household. She is characterized by her laziness, disorganization, and chronic tardiness, which stands in stark opposition to her older sixth-grade sister. Her sister is neat, calm, and tidy, forcing the two to share a bedroom. Like many children, Maruko attempts to dodge homework and chores, often leaning on her indulgent grandfather and engaging in squabbles with her sibling.
