Boss

Summary

Boss is a youthful delinquent from Mazinger Z who initially served as a bully and rival to Kabuto Kouji before evolving into a key ally and the series’ primary source of comic relief. He frequently scouts for Mazinger Z on his motorcycle or engages in slapstick antics. His gang originally consisted of Nuke and Mucha, though Bakarasu and Kouji’s younger brother Shiro joined the group during Great Mazinger. Boss has been a long-time school friend of Sayaka Yumi and harbors a deep crush on her. Around the two-thirds mark of Mazinger Z, Boss and his gang discovered an abandoned warehouse filled with scrap and kidnapped scientists from the Photonic Research Institute to construct a personal giant robot, Boss Borot, from the junk. His cousin Misato, a former model who now handles domestic chores like cleaning and cooking at the photon plant, works alongside them; her demeanor stands in stark contrast to Sayaka’s. Boss also made guest appearances in Grendizer and was a main character in the Mazinkaiser mini-series. In Shin Mazinger, Boss plays a diminished role but holds the title of leader for all delinquent gangs in Japan. He travels to Atami at the series’ start because it is the only region without a gang boss. Upon arrival, he identifies Kouji as the strongest local student and intends to defeat him to claim leadership, but the Ashura Corps’ first attack forces them into hiding. Following this incident, Boss, Nuke, and Mucha are forced to work at the Kurogane House to pay off a massive debt incurred from overstaying at a local spa. They also perform tasks for the Photon Power Labs, utilizing a large construction robot that later serves as the basis for their fighting mecha, Boss Borot. Throughout the series, he maintains his friendly rivalry with Kouji and occasionally assists him.
