Summary
Chie Satonaka is a sixteen-year-old girl, turning seventeen, born on July 30, 1995. A Leo with type B blood, she stands at 158 cm tall. Known for her tomboyish demeanor, she often acts like a boy yet retains a feminine charm. Her personality is bright and upbeat, frequently attempting to lift the group's spirits with jokes about their cases. Chie is deeply obsessed with kung fu and martial arts cinema, particularly enjoying films like Trial of the Dragon. She holds a fierce grudge against Yosuke for breaking her disk, a short temper she occasionally exploits to secure free steak at Junes. Despite her enthusiasm, she is a terrible cook and often serves disastrous meals alongside Yukiko and Rise. Her initial Persona is Tomoe Gozen, associated with the Chariot Arcana. This muscular female figure wears a yellow outfit reminiscent of Bruce Lee's Game of Death costume and wields a double-bladed naginata. Tomoe Gozen utilizes both physical attacks and ice spells. However, once Teddie joins the team, he assumes the role of the primary ice caster, and Tomoe ceases to learn new ice spells, with bufula being her final ice technique. Upon completing the Chariot Social Link, Tomoe Gozen evolves into the Ultimate Persona, Suzuka Gongen. Chie's Shadow manifests as a masked dominatrix with long black hair similar to Yukiko’s, accompanied by three pale versions of Chie. This form symbolizes her jealousy of Yukiko’s natural talents and her desire for control over her. Like other characters, Chie underwent several design changes during development, with one early concept even influencing Teddie’s design. Through her Social Link with the Protagonist, the two grow closer while training at the Samegawa Floodplain. The Protagonist learns that Chie enjoys creating groups and titles to intimidate juveniles and protect the weak. When they encounter high schoolers bullying people in the Central Shopping District, they intervene. They first rescue Chie’s middle school friend, who alerts the police, and later scare off hoodlums attempting to steal from a young boy. Following these events, the Protagonist can choose to deepen their bond. If they pursue a normal relationship, Chie continues training with him; if they pursue a serious relationship, she visits his home and gives him matching wristbands. Her resolve to help others and protect the team, especially the Protagonist, triggers the evolution of Tomoe Gozen into Suzuka Gongen.
