Summary
Grand Fisher is a Hollow that managed to avoid Shinigami detection for more than fifty years and was directly responsible for the death of Ichigo’s mother, Masaki Kurosaki. His dietary preferences differ between adaptations; in the anime, he targeted women, whereas the manga states he preferred children, with Masaki simply being in the wrong place. In his Hollow form, he appears as a massive hamster-like creature with avian limbs and a tentacle resembling an angler fish’s esca hanging from his forehead. This lure is roughly human-sized and can morph into the likeness of anyone Grand Fisher desires, typically a previous victim. The lure operates independently, and Grand Fisher cannot be purified as long as either the lure or his main body remains intact. In battle, Grand Fisher uses his angler to keep Shinigami at a distance rather than drawing them in. By shaping the lure into a decoy of someone dear to his opponent, he exploits their hesitation to strike. He can also extend his hair and fingers into sharp spikes for stabbing or restraining foes. He notes that these spikes absorb the memories of those he pierces, which explains his ability to replicate loved ones as psychological shields. Outside of combat, the angler functions like its real-world counterpart, allowing him to detect and consume those with high spiritual power. Following his defeat by Ichigo, Grand Fisher was transformed into an imperfect Arrancar by Iceringer and utilized by Aizen as an experimental subject. In this Arrancar state, he takes on a larger, more humanoid shape with a tattooed face emerging from his jawbones. He wields an enormous Zanpakutō on his back, nearly as tall as a two-story structure. Drawing the blade transforms him into a monstrous entity with bull-like horns, while the sword itself grows to the size of a skyscraper. He returns to the human world to eliminate Ichigo but is ultimately killed by Ichigo’s father, Isshin Kurosaki.
