Summary
Hatori, the Dragon of the Zodiac and private physician to the Souma clan, is a man of serious demeanor who lacks a sense of humor. His duties include erasing the memories of anyone who discovers the clan’s secret, though the method behind this—whether hypnosis or a supernatural power—remains ambiguous. When his curse manifests, he transforms into a seahorse rather than a dragon, as the Japanese term translates to the creature that Chinese culture regards as a young dragon. He is deeply self-conscious about this discrepancy, feeling the irony of being the "great and powerful dragon" while appearing as a mere seahorse. His romantic history is marked by tragedy involving Kana, his assistant and "Spring." After Hatori sought permission from Akito to marry her, Akito threw a pot at him, leaving him nearly blind in his left eye. Overcome with guilt, Kana descended into depression, forcing Hatori to wipe her memory to relieve her suffering. Like Shigure and Ayame, Hatori is exceptionally tall, and beneath his stern exterior lies a genuinely kind man.
