Tooyama, Kazuha

Summary

Tooyama Kazuha serves as the childhood friend and romantic interest of Hattori Heiji. Their fathers are colleagues at the Osaka Police station, where Kazuha’s father, Tooyama Ginshirou, serves as a subordinate and close friend to Heiji’s father, Police Chief Hattori Heizou. During their youth, Heiji once locked them together with a pair of keyless handcuffs, forcing them to spend time together even during intimate moments like bathroom visits until the restraints were removed. To commemorate this closeness and for good luck, Kazuha crafted two identical lucky charms, each containing a chain link from the handcuffs, which both wear to this day. She later added a picture of Heiji to her charm pouch. Kazuha possesses a hot temper and is highly critical of those around her. She demonstrates a high level of intelligence, having deduced a dying message in an episode faster than either Ran or Kogoro, albeit with slight assistance from Heiji. She is confrontational and unafraid to express her dislike for others, showing no hesitation in confronting Heiji in the men's restroom. This trait often leads to shouting matches with Heiji but also helped her and Ran forge a strong friendship. She holds a strong belief in spirits, good-luck charms, and superstitions. From her first experience, she valued the charms she made to protect herself and Heiji from harm. In one instance, Heiji lent Conan his charm, and the metal inside stopped a knife blade that would have killed him. On subsequent cases, Kazuha quickly attributes mysterious shadows and strange events to ghosts or malignant spirits. This tendency often sends Ran into a panic, although Kazuha does not possess the same morbid fear of ghosts as Ran does.
