Meng, Ao

Summary

Mou Gou, known as Hakurou, was a Great General of Qin and the patriarch of the military lineage that included his son, Great General Mou Bu, and his grandsons, Mou Ki and Mou Ten. Originally hailing from the State of Qi, his early career in the Qi military was defined by a recurring frustration: he could never defeat the Zhao Renpa, regardless of whether he held the rank of squad leader or 1000-man commander. This inability to overcome Renpa prompted him and his son to emigrate to the State of Qin, where both enjoyed successful military careers. In Qin, Mou Gou was regarded as a mediocre general who relied strictly on conventional tactics, winning only against opponents weaker than himself. He favored taking his time to conduct sieges on enemy cities, a method that earned him the nickname "Famous Sieger of Cities" from his grandson. His standard battle plan involved dividing his forces into three separate armies to invade a region simultaneously. He would patiently surround a city, using persistent attacks to erode enemy morale until an opening emerged. This approach turned his army’s style into a test of endurance. To compensate for his lack of tactical brilliance, he possessed a keen eye for potential, recruiting Kan Ki and Ou Sen as his Vice Generals. Although considered average, he wielded a glaive in battle and was strong enough to push back Ren Pa in combat.
