Katagiri, Munemasa

Summary

Munemasa Katagiri, a retired Japanese footballer who debuted in the Captain Tsubasa manga, currently serves as a talent scout for the Japan Football Association. Despite hailing from a wealthy family, he severed ties with them for years after choosing a soccer career over joining the family business. Acting as a behind-the-scenes strategist, Katagiri supports the Golden Age talents, including Tsubasa, Misaki, Hyuga, and Aoi, in their ascent to global prominence. He has served as an assistant coach for U-13 Japan, U-14 Japan, and All Japan Jr., aiding them in matches against European teams and during the Jr. World Cup in Film 4. As a JFA representative, he continued backing the Golden Generation by organizing the shadow team Real Japan 7 to strengthen All Japan Youth for the 2nd Asian preliminaries. He also facilitated the U-20 International World Youth Cup in Japan with his father’s assistance. Although Katagiri Sr. initially demanded his son renounce his ties to the national team as a condition for help, Katagiri Jr. refused to bow to these demands. Consequently, his father relented, agreeing to support the team on the condition that his son visit their mother.
