Summary
Li Xingke makes a brief appearance in the first season’s twenty-third episode before making his full debut in the opening installment of R2. As a member of the Chinese Federation, he is defined by his unwavering loyalty to the Empress, a devotion that sets him apart from his superiors. His ultimate objective involves restoring the Chinese throne as the undisputed authority, recognizing that the current Empress leads only a puppet government while actual power lies with eunuchs. Previously serving as the bodyguard for the influential eunuch Gaohai, Li accompanied him when the Federation dispatched Gaohai as a consul to the Britannian colony of Area 11. Their arrival coincided with the Order of the Black Knight’s operation to recover Zero. Following the Black Knights’ success, Zero ordered them to seek refuge at the Chinese Embassy. Under the influence of Lelouch’s Geass, Gaohai agreed to harbor the fugitives, a decision that troubled Li as it deviated from their mission. During this time, Li met Karen Kōzuki and was impressed that a person of her age was piloting the Guren Nishiki. When Britannia prepared to execute the imprisoned Black Knights, Li launched an independent attack on the embassy to advance his own agenda. He subsequently held a private meeting with Karen and C.C., revealing his plan to assassinate Gaohai. He coerced C.C. into making Gaohai’s death appear as the result of a battle with them. Li then confronted Gaohai regarding his unauthorized recognition of the United States of Japan without consulting mainland officials, including the Empress. Upon discovering that Gaohai, still under the effect of the Geass, cared more for Zero than the Empress, Li executed him for lèse majesté. C.C. realized that Li’s aid to the Black Knights was merely a transaction to use them as tools for his own ambitions to restore China’s dominance. Li is in peak physical condition and possesses exceptional close-combat prowess, particularly with his sword. He can draw, strike, and sheathe his blade without his victims perceiving any movement. Rumors also suggest that Xingke will pilot the Shen-Hu. Described as being as strong as Suzaku and as intelligent as Lelouch, he quickly deduced Karen’s identity as the Guren Nishiki pilot. Li demonstrated his political acumen by managing the escalating diplomatic crisis surrounding the Black Knights’ shelter at the Chinese Federation Consulate. He avoided provoking an international war with Britannia while leveraging the situation to eliminate Gaohai and further his goals. He appeared to respect Zero’s intellect, and C.C. noted that Li was not only a skilled soldier but also possessed significant political skill.
