Gin Ichimaru is a Shinigami with a striking and unsettling appearance that contrasts with his otherwise plain attire, save for the lime green interior of his captain’s haori. He possesses an unusually slender frame, perpetually narrowed eyes, and distinctive silver hair that takes on a purple hue in the anime. He maintains a wide, unnerving smile for most of the time, rarely letting it drop. His Zanpakuto is named Shinso. His personality is defined by a lack of visible emotion and a heavy use of sarcasm, which causes many to distrust him. Toshiro Hitsugaya and Rukia Kuchiki are particularly wary of him; Rukia once remarked that speaking with Gin felt like snakes wrapping around her neck. He entered service around the same time Kisuke Urahara became a captain. Before leading the 3rd Division, Gin served as the lieutenant of the 5th Division under Captain Sosuke Aizen. He attained the rank of captain simultaneously with Byakuya Kuchiki.
