Otakon 2026 Hits Record 47,049 as D.C. Con Wraps, Teases Summerween 2027

Washington, D.C.’s Walter E. Washington Convention Center just closed another raucous summer weekend — and Otakon 2026 left with a new attendance crown. Organizer Otakorp put total people on the floor at 47,049 across July 31–August 2, roughly 3,000 above last year’s haul and past the 46,000 peak set during the con’s 30th-anniversary run in 2024. That figure folds in pre-reg and at-door memberships plus staff, dealers, artists, industry, guests, and press, with a possible post-audit tweak still pending.

The energy matched the numbers. Halls, artist alley, and panels stayed loud from open to close, with Japanese industry names such as voice actor Yoshitsugu Matsuoka and Bones president Masahiko Minami sharing the guest slate with English-language talent and VTubers. Floor chatter and local coverage framed the weekend as a pure celebration of anime, manga, games, and cosplay — the “by fans, for fans” pitch Otakon has sold for three decades.

Con chair Victoria MacEntee thanked the “guild members” who helped make it a record-breaking year and immediately pointed everyone at the next quest. Otakon 2027 returns to the same D.C. venue August 6–8, this time under a Summerween theme — half summer bash, half spooky season.

Otakorp also dropped the first three names for that roster: John Eric Bentley (Barrett Wallace in Final Fantasy VII Remake), Emi Lo (Lucy in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners), and Kaiji Tang (Satoru Gojo in Jujutsu Kaisen). For a con that just outgrew its own high-water mark, that’s a clear signal: the East Coast’s fan-run flagship is still climbing.
