Kino’s Journey Author Debuts First Original Manga Under Shogakukan

Shogakukan’s Weekly CoroCoro Comic has opened a major new serialization: Kemono-tachi no Peregrinatio (Peregrinatio Bestiarum), the first original manga story written by light-novel heavyweight Keiichi Sigsawa—best known for Kino’s Journey and Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online. Artist Hayato Asaki draws the series, which launched Friday on the CoroCoro website and is also rolling out via BookLive and Pixiv Comic every Friday at 5 p.m. JST.

The setting is pure Sigsawa-scale wanderlust with sharper teeth. Decades after giant beasts wiped out roughly 90% of humanity, the survivors live quietly among the ruins. Those same beasts have reappeared—not as pure destroyers, but as creatures that answer to rare “beast tamers.” Young chronicler Al and tamer Riko roam the broken world atop Kuro, a colossal wolf whose back carries their entire house, seeking isolated communities and the truth behind the giants.

Early chapters lean into CoroCoro’s flair for widescreen spectacle: hostile villagers who still fear beast tamers, a rival who turns a boar-class beast on a settlement, and Riko’s “Full Link” technique that lets Kuro fight upright like a human. Beneath the set pieces sits the series’ bigger mystery—what the beasts really are, and why humans can command them now.
