Kadokawa Launches Lodoss War Prequel as Studio White's First Webtoon

Kadokawa just marched a classic fantasy island onto the vertical scroll. The publisher has unlocked a worldwide rollout for Record of Lodoss War: Queen of Death, the first webtoon from Studio White — a joint studio Kadokawa built with LINE Digital Frontier and REDICE STUDIO. English and other editions went live on WEBTOON, LINE Manga, and ebookjapan, reaching more than 150 countries.

Ryo Mizuno's original Record of Lodoss War novels never told this chapter. The official prequel sits before the saga that defined Japanese high fantasy, in the ashes of the Kingdom of Kastuul. Southern Camel is adapting; Blanton is painting it in full color. Rookie swordsman Thane and priestess Seraphine treat that war as ancient history — until the sky bleeds red, ghouls burn their village, and a wraith comes hunting Seraphine's soul.

New episodes land every Friday. Kadokawa is treating the launch as more than a one-off: Studio White's next vertical-scroll spin-offs will tap Sword Art Online, Slayers, and The Familiar of Zero. For the publisher that helped invent the modern light novel, this is a loud bet that Lodoss still has new wars left — and that webtoons are how the next generation finds the island.
