Synopsis
In the closing years of the 21st century, Earth faced the twin crises of overpopulation and dwindling resources. Developing the Moon was proposed as the solution, and its mineral wealth revitalized the planet, bringing widespread prosperity. Yet for those who had left Earth to settle on the lunar surface, realizing that dream came at a great personal cost. What was once humanity's greatest aspiration has turned into a nightmare for those forced to endure it. Shun Nonomura has no idea that he is about to uncover a weapon capable of overthrowing the brutal Monopolice and granting freedom to the lunar colonists. The growing resistance movement quickly adopts both the weapon and its creator into their ranks, as they unite around the mysterious alien monument known as Dallos. Produced by Studio Pierrot in 1983, Dallos is recognized as the world's first original video animation (OVA) series. It also marked the directorial debut of Mamoru Oshii, who would later go on to helm such films as Angel's Egg, the first two Urusei Yatsura movies, and Ghost in the Shell.
