Synopsis

In a near-future setting following the last major conflict, the majority of humanity resides within a select number of city-states. For the privileged elite, life within these walls is meant to be flawless. However, for young Shion, the only thing flawless has been the ongoing nightmare his existence became after he allowed a peculiar boy named Rat to stay overnight in his apartment. After being exiled to the city's fringes and stripped of every advantage for aiding the elusive stranger who subsequently vanished, Shion now faces even graver peril. His investigation into a fresh wave of unexplained deaths leads to his arrest on charges of murder! Yet just as Shion is being transported to the city's Correctional Institute, the long-absent Rat reappears to save him. Now fugitives, the two young men have but a single path to survival: to unveil the hidden truths lurking within the sinister core of No. 6!

Background

No. 6 condenses but largely remains faithful to the the original nine-part light novel series. Changes were made to tone down the amount of violence in the series, in addition to creating an alternate ending.
