In the world of Gundam Build Fighters, Gunpla—short for Gundam Plastic Models—once surged in popularity following Mobile Suit Gundam, declined, and then experienced a revival. Now, with Plavsky particles, enthusiasts can battle in a virtual reality-style arena, culminating each year in the prestigious Gunpla World Tournament. Sei Iori, whose father once reached the final round, dreams of winning the tournament. Though a skilled Gunpla builder, Sei struggles with piloting his creations in combat. Enter Reiji, a mysterious newcomer with little knowledge of the outside world but extraordinary abilities in Gunpla battles. Together, Sei and Reiji combine their talents in construction and combat, aiming to conquer the Gunpla World Tournament and transform the Gunpla community.

Just before the grand opening of Yajima Stadium, Nils Nielsen arranges a showcase battle for Sei Iori, Meijin Kawaguchi, and their friends, using his brand-new large-scale combat simulator. When the group assembles, Sei presents his upgraded Build Strike Cosmos but feels something missing in the excitement. Abruptly, a mysterious force seizes control of the stadium's systems, trapping Sei and his companions inside. A dark group then appears, challenging the trapped competitors to a Gunpla Battle.
