In UC 0079, during the One Year War, the Earth Federation and the Principality of Zeon clash in the dangerous Thunderbolt Sector, an area infamous for its violent electrical storms. Federation pilot Io Fleming leads an attack against Zeon's elite sniper unit, which is commanded by ace pilot Daryl Lorenz. Both sides are made up of highly skilled fighters who battle relentlessly among the debris of destroyed space colonies. When Io acquires a prototype Gundam, Daryl is forced to make a tough choice: either pay a critical price to gain the strength needed to defeat his opponent and secure victory for Zeon, or stand by helplessly as his comrades are picked off by a single enemy.

In this installment

The second season of Kidou Senshi Gundam Thunderbolt picks up seven months after the conclusion of the One Year War. The surviving forces of the Principality of Zeon have reorganized into the Republic of Zeon and continue to fight. Daryl piloted the mobile suit Psycho Zaku in the war's final battle at the "Thunderbolt Sector," where the Moore Brotherhood's fleet was wiped out. After the destruction of the Psycho Zaku, Daryl descends to Earth and takes an intelligence post to gather information about the South Seas Alliance, a military organization within the Earth Federation. Io, who once clashed with Daryl, is chosen to pilot the prototype mobile suit Atlas Gundam and sets course for Earth.
