Synopsis
Continues the story of Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku
Narumi Momose, an energetic young woman, sleeps through all four of her alarms and ends up sprinting to catch her train on her first day at a new office job. Along the way, she vows to keep her double life as an otaku and fujoshi completely hidden from her new coworkers. But fate has other plans: she literally bumps into Hirotaka Nifuji, a friend she hasn't seen since middle school. She tries to deflect by suggesting they grab drinks after work, but Hirotaka casually asks if she's going to Summer Comiket, blowing her cover wide open. Fortunately, the only people who overhear are Hanako Koyanagi and Tarou Kabakura—who happen to be otaku themselves. That evening, the two old friends meet for drinks to catch up. Narumi vents about her previous boyfriend, who dumped her because he couldn't accept dating a fujoshi. Hirotaka responds by proposing that she try dating a fellow otaku instead—specifically, him. He vows to always be by her side, support her, and help her grind for rare drops in Monster Hunter. Stunned by the offer, Narumi says yes on the spot. And so, the two otaku begin dating, kicking off their adorably awkward romance.
In this installment
In the first OVA, "Sore wa, Ikinari Otozureta = Koi," we are introduced to Tarou Kabakura, a third-year high school student and captain of the boys' volleyball team, who is constantly pestered by his junior, Hanako Koyanagi, the girls' team captain. Koyanagi insists the boys give up the court because the girls have an important match approaching. When Kabakura refuses, she threatens to reveal his secret otaku hobby if he does not comply. Afraid his teammates will find out, Kabakura gives in and lets the girls use the courts, also offering her one-on-one training. As they spend increasing time together, their relationship grows into a close friendship. The second OVA, "Tomodachi no Kyori," further examines the bond between Naoya and Kou. The third OVA, "Shain Ryokou to Negaigoto," covers the happenings during the company retreat.
