Synopsis

Three years prior to the gateway to the Beyond opening, Hellsalem's Lot, formerly New York City, was already a unique blend of supersonic monkeys, vampires, talking fishmen, and countless supernatural beings coexisting with humans. The sudden appearance of this interdimensional portal trapped both humans and creatures from the other realm within an unbreakable sphere, forcing them to live together. To maintain order and prevent the city's chaos from spreading, the secret organization Libra, composed of eccentrics and superhumans, works tirelessly to ensure stability. Leonardo Watch, who previously lived a normal life as a photographer with his family, undergoes a drastic change when he gains the "All-seeing Eyes of the Gods," an event that costs his sister her sight. Traveling to Hellsalem's Lot to seek answers regarding his new abilities, Leo stumbles upon Libra. After unexpectedly joining their ranks, he finds himself overwhelmed and embarks on a series of adventures with his unusual teammates. This narrative follows an ordinary boy thrust into an extraordinary situation as he navigates the strangest place on Earth.

Background

Kekkai Sensen adapts a select 12 chapters from the first 6 volumes of the manga it is based on while adding a new plotline and characters, culminating in an anime-exclusive ending. Aside from the first episode which adapts the three-chapter pilot, each episode adapts one chapter. Episodes 1 and 2 were previewed at a screening at Odaiba Cinema Mediage in Tokyo on March 21, 2015. Regular broadcasting began on April 5, 2015. The final episode was originally scheduled to broadcast on July 4, 2015, but was delayed to October 4, 2015.
