Synopsis
On a ferry heading toward Fuuka Academy, new student Mai Tokiha and her frail younger brother, Takumi, rescue a girl who has fallen into the water. Soon after, the ferry is attacked by an enemy that summons a mechanical monster. Despite being injured, Mikoto Minagi defeats the creature using a mystical blade. Mai later discovers that Mikoto is also a student with the powers of a HiME (Highly-Advanced Materializing Equipment). As female HiMEs, they are tasked with defending the academy and the surrounding town from Orphan monsters. Following a series of school events where they clash with these creatures, Mai realizes that she too is a HiME, able to summon a Child—a powerful mechanical being. With her new abilities, Mai joins twelve other HiMEs to protect their school from an unknown menace while also keeping their loved ones safe.
Background
Mai-HiME was released on DVD in Japan from January 28, 2005, to September 23, 2005. Bandai Entertainment published the series in North America in seven DVD volumes from March 28, 2006, to April 3, 2007. A remastered Blu-ray and DVD collection was released by Funimation on January 9, 2018. The anime was adapted into multiple video games for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, and Windows PC.
