Yuuichi Tate is thrilled to start at a new high school. Shortly after arriving, he notices that his school is regularly attacked by weird creatures known as "Orphans." To counter these threats, the school has assembled a specialized team of girls called the "HiME," each possessing unique elemental powers. Additionally, every HiME has a special "Key"—a particular person whose identification enables them to summon a "Child," an essential combat being for fighting the Orphans. Yuuichi learns that he serves as the Key for not just one, but two rival HiME girls. This discovery leads to numerous difficulties for him.
