Synopsis
Following the tragic car accident that claims her mother's life, nine-year-old Melmo finds herself solely responsible for caring for her two younger brothers, a burden far too heavy for her age and resources. While mourning, the ghost of her late mother appears and gifts her a bottle of miraculous candy. These sweets allow her to transform into an adult when she consumes the blue variety, or into an infant with the red one. Combining both types can regress her to a fetus state before she can morph into any animal she can imagine. With an seemingly endless supply of these candies, Melmo tackles the various challenges that arise, receiving help from her younger brother Toto—who accidentally turns into a frog in episode 7—and her grumpy mentor, Dr Nosehairs.
Background
A "renewal" version with touched-up animation and a completely different cast was broadcasted by WOWOW and Tokyo MX TV in 1998 and 2006, respectively.
