Following the death of their mother in a car accident, Melmo is left to care for their younger sibling, Totoo. Worried about her children, the deceased mother asks God for help, and God provides magical candies. There are two kinds: a blue candy makes Melmo grow ten years older, allowing them to become any adult they choose, while a red candy reverses the effect, making them ten years younger. Using these candies, Melmo takes on roles like a nurse, teacher, and police officer, solving various problems together with Totoo. Rubio is an elementary school student whose life changes when a meteorite lands in their yard, revealing two helmet-shaped hats. After putting one on, Rubio hears the voice of a cosmic being. The being explains that it has powerful magic and warns Rubio that a huge alien monster named Zonda plans to destroy Earth. The being urges Rubio to use the hat's magic to protect the planet. Rubio gives the second hat to classmate Kuriko, and together they set out to defeat Zonda. The hats give them the ability to fly and superhuman strength, allowing them to soar through the skies and handle dangerous situations around the world. Their journey ends with a trip into space to hunt down Zonda.
