The title suggests a focus on mundane school routines, but the actual events are far from ordinary. In this peculiar school, one might witness the principal wrestling with a deer or a robot's arm concealing a roll cake. Alongside these bizarre occurrences, there are also relatable experiences like building a house of cards or preparing for an exam without having studied.

This series chronicles the daily escapades of three high school friends and classmates: Mio Naganohara, Yuuko Aioi, and Mai Minakami. Their routines become entangled with those of the child prodigy Hakase Shinonome, her robotic assistant Nano, and their feline companion Sakamoto. For these six individuals and their broader circle of acquaintances, every day blends mundane tranquility with utter chaos. Incidents span the ordinary, such as attending school, to the bizarre, including being pecked by a talking crow or witnessing the principal suplex a deer. Through these events, Nichijou depicts a life that is simultaneously strangely normal and entirely unconventional.

Background

Bandai Entertainment had licensed Nichijou, but on January 2, 2012, it was announced they were leaving the North American anime market with all unreleased titles including Nichijou being cancelled. The series would remain unlicensed until November 4, 2016 when Funimation Entertainment acquired the series, and released it sub-only in a complete Blu-ray & DVD combo pack on February 7, 2017. They also did a Blu-ray & Digital combo pack with a brand new English dub, which was released on July 23, 2019.
