Synopsis
Continues the story of Stand By Me Doraemon
In "Stand By Me Doraemon," Nobita Nobi is an elementary school student who struggles academically, lacks athletic ability, and avoids putting in effort, leading to frequent bullying and misfortune that sets a bleak future for him and his descendants. To change this outcome, his great-great-grandson, Sewashi, travels from the 22nd century to the 20th century, appearing from Nobita's desk drawer alongside a blue robotic cat named Doraemon. Doraemon explains that Sewashi forced him to assist Nobita in hopes of improving his life. Initially disappointed by Nobita's situation, Doraemon attempts to return home but is prevented when Sewashi activates a built-in program to keep him in the past. Tasked with improving Nobita's life and ensuring his happiness, Doraemon uses futuristic gadgets from his four-dimensional pocket. The story unfolds as they work to change Nobita's future, allowing Doraemon to eventually return to his own time.
In this installment
Nobita Nobi, moved by memories of his late grandmother, asks Doraemon for help to go back in time and see her again. During a heartfelt reunion, his grandmother says she wants to meet Nobita's future wife, and Nobita, touched by her words, decides to make that happen. They quickly take a trip to the future using Doraemon's time machine. When they arrive at Nobita's wedding day, they find that the future Nobita is nowhere to be seen. Determined to fix this, Doraemon and Nobita set out to find the missing future Nobita, hoping to make sure he gets the happiness he deserves.
Background
Stand By Me Doraemon 2 was set to have its theatrical release in Japan on August 7, 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the movie was postponed until November 22, 2020.
