Synopsis

For middle-aged Sasaki, the only highlight in his exhausting daily grind is the lively energy of Yamada, the young woman who works at the 24-hour supermarket he visits. After each hard day filled with criticism from his boss, Sasaki goes to the store where Yamada’s bright presence cheers him up. One especially rough day, Sasaki arrives at the supermarket only to find that Yamada has already left her shift. Feeling disappointed, he looks for a place to smoke when a woman calls him over from behind the store. Tayama, bold and playfully daring, soon notices Sasaki’s pattern of always seeking out Yamada and even goes as far as telling Yamada about Sasaki’s interest in her. Beyond his usual trips to see Yamada, Sasaki now regularly checks whether Tayama, his new smoking partner, is around. But beneath Tayama’s mischievous behavior lies more complexity than first meets the eye. As they share cigarettes together, an unforeseen friendship starts to blossom between them.
