Agatha serves as a temporary Gym Leader for the Viridian Gym within the anime series, specifically appearing during the events of The Scheme Team. While traveling through Viridian City en route to Pallet Town, Ash crosses paths with Scott. Eager to demonstrate his strength, Ash challenges Agatha to a gym battle against her Gengar. Although Ash had previously maintained a top eight ranking at the Ever Grande Conference, he is defeated in this encounter. Despite the loss, both Agatha and Scott are impressed by his performance. Agatha then discloses that she is a member of the Elite Four. She and Scott jointly advise Ash to travel to the Battle Frontier and challenge the Frontier Brains.
