Fujiwara no Mokou

Fujiwara no Mokou

Summary

Fujiwara no Mokou is a human who attained eternal youth and immortality after consuming the Hourai Elixir roughly 1300 years ago. While she cannot die, she continues to experience physical pain from injuries. This immortality, combined with her extensive lifespan, has granted her significant power, allowing her to endure combat until she is incapacitated by pain. She possesses resistance to and the ability to manipulate fire. Her primary motivation for existing is her enduring hatred for Kaguya, stemming from the humiliation her father suffered when the moon princess rejected his marriage proposal after he failed the trial of the Impossible Requests. Although she knows permanent revenge is impossible due to her own immortality, she remains fixated on the slight. In her daily life, Mokou acts as a guide in the Bamboo Forest of the Lost, rescuing lost individuals and claiming to operate a yakitori stand. She frequently aids nearby villagers by eliminating youkai and directing them to Eientei for medical care. Despite her helpful actions, she is a loner who avoids socializing with both humans and youkai. Her personality is unstable, shifting rapidly between friendly and threatening, though her behavior suggests a fundamentally good nature. She is one of the few residents of Gensokyo who wears pants, a rarity in a region resembling feudal Japan where such clothing is expensive and difficult to obtain. This choice, along with her forceful speech, often characterizes her as a tomboy, potentially reflecting her upbringing as the daughter of Kuramochi no Miko, an aristocrat linked to the legend of the Jeweled Branch of Hourai. Her lineage is speculated to connect to Fujiwara no Fuhito, the historical founder of the powerful Fujiwara clan.
