Summary
As the head of the Kuchiki family, Ginrei wears the same scarf that Byakuya currently sports, though he omits the aristocratic hair piece associated with his son. There is speculation that he may have been among the founding Captains of the Gotei 13, as he appears in the Turn Back the Pendulum Miniseries alongside the other thirteen Captains and bears a resemblance to the current Captain Yamamoto in terms of facial features and apparent age. However, this theory is contradicted by statements indicating that only Shigekuni Yamamoto-Genryūsai, Retsu Unohana, Jūshirō Ukitake, and Shunsui Kyōraku remain as the surviving old-generation Captains. During the Turn Back the Pendulum Miniseries, Ginrei is shown introducing Yoruichi Shihōin, who served as the Captain of the 2nd Division at the time, to a young Byakuya who was undergoing training. He appears exasperated by Byakuya’s rash and hot-headed tendencies, advising him that he would make a great leader if he could learn self-control, a sentiment he echoes in later years.
