Summary
Meiko Rokudo appears as an innocent teenage girl but possesses immense power by directly commanding twelve Shikigami. These entities, known as the Jyuni Shinshou, are named after the Heavenly Generals, which are legendary Hindu figures who converted to Buddhism. The specific names are Indara, Ajira, Kubira, Basara, Shindara, Sanchira, Haira, Makora, Shôtora, Anchira, Bikara, and Mekira. Each Shikigami takes an animal form that serves as a caricature of the symbols carried by these figures, originating from the Chinese Earthly Branches counting series. While Meiko typically maintains control, her shikigami turn destructive when she becomes distraught, attacking anything or anyone nearby. Due to her sensitive nature, weak will, and tendency to be easily hurt, Meiko frequently loses control, causing her pets to go on rampage. She is hinted to be a lesbian with romantic feelings for Mikami, who was the only person capable of calming Meiko down when she first lost control of her shikigami in public. Meiko is the daughter of a renowned mad scientist and a wealthy heiress. Her mother was the previous mistress of the shikigami and retains the ability to control them at will.
